My yellow lab was on metacam for about 5 years after she went lame and i took her to the vet all the checks were done and the outcome was arthritis she was about 8 yers old at the time i gave her metacam eveery day in her food and i honestley believe it worked wonders for her especially as it has a pain relief in it and my vet told me that it is something that you are able to stop and start as and when the dog seems a bit stiff i did this and it seemed to worrk well for my dog Pippa sadley we lost her 3 years ago at the age of 13

hi, metacam (meloxicam) is a non-steriodal anti inflammatory, it can strip the lining of the stomach and cause stomach ulcers so must be given with food! your vet should have done a blood test on your dog to make sure its kidney and liver functions are as normal before prescribing it long term. its very commonly used for dogs for relief of symptoms of srthiritis and post-operatively as an analgesic (pain relief).

Hi, My yellow labrador had hip displacia diognosed when he was seven years old and was on Metacam from that age until sadly we had to have him put to sleep at Christmas - he would have been twelve on 18th January. The Metacam was great and helped him on his bad days and I would definately say it lengthened his lifeand made him more comfortable. However as we had to increase the dose as he got older it did make him slightly sleepy and at times not himself.
Hope this helps.
Lisa.
