Subject:biting

hi, i have a 16wk choc lab, mine did the same thing kept biting all the time...i got him at eight week...and i was worried he would bite the kids...in the 8wks we had him, ive tapped him and the nose and said no firmly..it has worked eventually...i can now put my face upto him and he licks me...or if he attempts to bite he has my hand in his mouth, and i say no..ah ah..he releases and licks..i also have a boxweiller who is 3...im having more probs with them fighting now lol...but im sure if you persevere he will stop biting...give him plenty of chews..think its the teething stage..mine still chewing everything in site still...not my hand any more though...hope this helps ...ann

Congratulations on your new pup! My Lab Brody is now 2 years old and I can remember well the biting and nipping, we all had bruises on the back of our knees and arms for months until we got it under control but it wasn't easy. Try turning your back on him and ignoring him, Labs hate to be ignored as they enjoy being part of the family and like the attention, failing that, leave the room and close the door for a few minutes, but make sure that when you reunite that it is friendly. These seemed to work for us but we had to persevere for a long while. We found that the more we shouted ouch! the more excited he became and nippd even more.

As for feeding, I think that you are doing the right thing at the moment. Labs are prone to put on weight easily, the packaging is very confusing.

Good luck. x
