hi yvonne, i have a 4mth old choc lab...i wasnt warned bout the loopy behaviour lol...i also have a loopy boxweiller who is 3yrs old and had clamed down till diesel came along...now i have 2 loopy dogs..firstly well i had the same problem as you with the runny poop..ive had my pup 8wks now...the breeder told me he was being fed on bakers complete puppy dry food...so we bought loads of boxes of it...and you guessed it still runny poop...we tried loads of things...but we found the ones without veg in best...we have him on pedigree chum dry puppy food...and it worked..we now have walnut whip poop lol..expensive for the amount he eats...but so worth not having runny ones lol..also my dog drinks alot...usually bout half hour after he has eaten the dry food...it does make them thirsty...but if he is drinking excessive amounts..get him tested for diabetes..exessive thirst is a classic symptom of this in dogs and humans...hope this helps ....ann

Subject:Which brand of dog food?

We have a choc lab who is 10 months. We feed her on Beta dry food. We did try to change her food a few months back but she then had loose pooh. Put her back on Beta and she was ok. I think its trial and error finding the right dog food. Good Luck.

Hi Yvonne
I'm no expert, just the owner of 2 lab puppies (yes, 2!), our black boy Rufus is nearly 15 weeks now. Our breeder told us that he would get loose poos if we fed him too much. So we look at the poos he does and adjust the food accordingly! We've found that they need a bit less than the bags say. He's on about 100g dry food x 3 per day. What i have noticed though is that when he poops in the garden, it's how you would expect, but out on walks, it's that bit looser, i can only think it's te excitement! We also have an old cat who rules the roost. It was a bit unnerving watching the hissing etc and we were worried he'd get his eyes scratched, but in teh end they have established boundaries, Rufus has worked out teh distance he needs to leave to get round him. We now feed the cat on the stairs as Rufus can't disturb him there. We got Bramble, who is now 9 weeks, a choc lab a week ago. The two dogs now chase each other like loons and play rough and tumble with fearsome noises, and are having a great time, which means Rufus now more or less ignores the cat, as he has someone to play with! Not that getting a second puppy is a solution!! That said, we learnt so much in the first few weeks with Rufus that Bramble is far easier!
Hope it works out for you.
M
