Hi,

As long as your new puppy is introduced to the cats from the begining so that they learn to live together - and each time your puppy gets a little boisterous tell it 'no' and put it in the kitchen to isolate it for a few minutes. It won't take long for the puppy to realise that if it is too rough with the cats it will be isolated. So your puppy will then start and respond each time you say no - just so it doesn't get put in the kitchen.

Regards
Karen.

Hi.
We have a 22 month old lab bitch and also two cats(one aged 13 and the other is 6). Our lab has never been nasty towards the cats but she does like to play with them every time she sees them and they don't always want to!!! She can get abit rough-mainly with her feet, although it is totally unintentional on her part and she would never hurt them on purpose.
The older cat took along time to even stay in the same room as the dog....even though he had lived with our old dog(a cocker spaniel)since he was a year old. The younger cat(who had also always lived with our old dog) will stand his ground with our dog and will give her a swipe if she gets too much for him.
It really depends on the personality of your cats and if they are old/frail.
I wish you all the best for when you get a pup and I hope your cats and dog do get on!!!
Crystal.
